Method and boundaries

Estimate = projected area per cavity (in²) × cavity count × user-reviewed factor (US short tons/in²). This version explicitly defines one US short ton-force as 2000 lbf, not a metric tonne-force. The former factor default of 3 is retained as an unverified arithmetic assumption, not sourced material data. Replace it with a process-specific factor reviewed by the mold/process engineer. Include runner area once as a per-cavity share; do not multiply total-mold area twice. No ignored pressure field, recommended press range or automatic safety margin is present. Shot capacity, mold support and actual process suitability remain outside the model.

Fixed worked example — not a live result

Fixed hypothetical example: 100 in² per cavity × 1 cavity × assumed 3 US short tons/in² = 300 US short tons = 600000 lbf. Changing the factor to 2 changes the estimate to 200 US short tons. Neither result is a machine recommendation.
